There is no rule that prohibits a mom can make up, nay, can help you apply the same products you used before, and still feel beautiful. But we must bear in mind that the skin needs to breathe during pregnancy, for what you should avoid applying foundation on her face.

A woman pregnant can opt for cosmetic plants, such as those that can be purchased at Yves Rocher.

What changes occur in the skin of a mother? First, dark circles appear, probably due to problems sleeping, and in this case should apply a concealer and corrector on it, the foundation that in turn should be similar to the natural tone of the woman. On this basis, apply translucent powder.

In the case of skin appearing in some veins, with a brush you can apply green corrective cream, which hide the red hue of the veins.

The pregnant women can apply moisturizers. If you have oily skin, moisturizing lotion can choose water-based, and a base that has no fat, and then applying transparent powder in bright areas.

If the mother wishes to apply a base on the face, you can choose a makeup matte beige, without the color pink, because the increased blood volume will increase the flushing of the face.

Keep in mind some tips of what should and should not do during pregnancy when you go to makeup.

• Use moisturizing cream to moisturize your skin color.
• Put a little blush on the cheekbones to remove your face.
• To hide the wrinkles and crow’s feet, fine-textured base used powders and transparent.
• To reduce the continuous flushing effect that is generated during pregnancy because of the increased blood volume, we recommend applying a base matte pink beige without your fingers and apply a few dots on your cheeks and transparent powders applied over.
• To remove oily skin , use a lotion based on water and fat-free basis, then apply transparent powders which are the brightest areas.
• hypoallergenic cosmetics. Before aplicártelo, you should test them on the inside of your arm, so as to rule out allergic reactions.

You must be careful when using cosmetics and beauty products that contain chemicals that could harm your baby in different ways: While the cosmetics may be safe in a normal woman, but the chemicals can have dangerous side effects in pregnant women.

Creams with retinol

Retinoids are powerful agents in creams and anti-aging moisturizers. Retinoids are also found in the creams for acne and are not safe during pregnancy, and that retinol is a precursor of vitamin A, which aids in cell growth and regeneration.

The products of skin care that contain retinoids affect the health of an unborn child. The effects are quite serious if expectant mothers are exposed to oral retinoids such as isotretinoin, as they may cause birth defects in an infant.

While conducting pedicures and manicures, the extensive use of nail polish remover and it is common practice, it is true that they contain acetone and ethanol vapors released. These vapors, when inhaled by pregnant women can affect fetal development.

Chemical compounds that can be found in homes and businesses in the United States total more than 83,000. In most cases, little is known about the effects they can have during pregnancy (1). However, it was found that a small number of them are harmful to the fetus. These are mainly in the workplace, but certain environmental pollutants in the air and water, and some household chemicals can also pose a risk during pregnancy.

The pregnant woman can inhale these chemicals, ingest them in food or drink, or in some cases, absorbed through the skin. But in general, would be exposed to a lot and for a long time to arrive to harm your baby.

Most companies have appropriate preventive measures to ensure this does not happen. However, because little is known about the effects of most chemicals on reproduction, it is recommended that women consult their physician if exposed to any of them in their work, preferably before pregnancy . Along with your doctor can determine if you need some additional protection at work or if you should switch tasks. This is particularly important for women working in certain industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, dry cleaning, printing, manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and health care.

Pregnant women also can take steps to protect themselves and their babies from pollutants and potentially harmful chemicals used in your home.

There are many myths about the use of cosmetics during pregnancy we often scared and confused.

But we know that not all cosmetics are safe and that any drug or applied to the skin and mucous membranes are absorbed into the blood-feeding and therefore may also affect the fetus.

For example, it recommends the use of creams indicated for skin aging from the sun in its composition containing retinol or derivatives, as has been shown that retinoids administered orally, are associated with the appearance of numerous malformations in the fetus. sunscreens pose no risk because they are kept in the surface layer of the skin and its absorption is minimal. By contrast, pregnant women should use a high protective factor to prevent the emergence of so-called chloasma gravidarum (dark spots that appear on the skin).

The deodorants can be used, except those containing aluminum salts are used for large surfaces such as hands or feet. Perfumes not do any harm to the fetus.

The make-up and masks are also harmless to the developing fetus.

Hair dyes can be used during pregnancy unless the so-called progressive (mostly used by men), which may contain lead salts.

Finally, there is no evidence that the use of chemical hair straightening or curling produce effects on the fetus or newborn.

Since it is a topic of some concern, let’s see what those changes, and what we can do to mitigate the aesthetic effects not so flattering – beyond the important thing in pregnancy is the baby, women do not stop being concerned about our appearance – So, 90% of pregnant women have changes in skin pigmentation, especially darkening around the navel, genitals, breast areola, armpits and inner thighs, from the first quarter.

All this is because at this stage increases estrogen, progesterone and the melanocyte-stimulating hormone and glucocorticoids, that affect skin color. About half of mothers also suffer from melasma / chloasma, dark patches on the face, especially on the cheeks, upper lip or forehead. As worsens with sun exposure, you have to watch much of the sun at this stage. In 13% of pregnant women and new moles may appear in 15% change their size or color. It’s nothing to worry about, clarify dermatologists.

In a future post, we will discuss what happens to stretch marks and varicose veins.

Use of drugs during pregnancy
Gestation is a specific condition of women and therefore, the states of health and illness in the mother may be determinants of good prenatal development.

The woman pregnant may suffer any kind of disease is that sometimes it is necessary that the physician has to prescribe drug treatment. According to some studies, it is estimated that about 35% of pregnant women have to take medication, excluding supplements.

In the early sixties it was discovered that a drug, thalidomide, was responsible for the birth of children with severe congenital malformations (absence of limbs, eye abnormalities, heart, etc.).. From then began to study the effect teratogénicode drugs in experimental animals prior to marketing, and developed an epidemiological investigation of the effect of drugs on human fetuses.

It is called teratogens to drugs (or any environmental agent) capable of producing congenital defects, ie, physical deformities, mental or functional.

For any woman who becomes pregnant, the risk of having a child with a birth defect is 2-5%. Teratogenic agents increase the risk of occurrence of certain defects in offspring of women exposed to them. However, we must take into account that the action of teratogens depend on:

The genetic constitution of each individual exposed, ie fetuses there will be more likely to be affected than others.
The time of pregnancy that affect teratogens in pregnancy.
Risks in the different stages of pregnancy
During the first trimester of pregnancy may cause birth defects, since this is when they develop and differentiate the majority of fetal organs and systems.

In the period from conception to implantation (from ovulation to the “first offense”), about two weeks, it is considered that the embryo is very sensitive to the drugs in the absence of circulatory bond between mother and fetus.

Between the third and the eleventh week of pregnancy is considered that the risk is highest.

During the second and third trimester of pregnancy some drugs may affect fetal growth and development.

If given shortly before the end of pregnancy or during childbirth , problems can occur during or affecting the newborn.

What if a pregnant woman becomes ill?
If a pregnant woman has a health problem and is necessary to administer a drug, the physician should perform previously, adequate and individualized risk-benefit assessment, ie:

For example, high fever may cause injury to the fetus, but there are drugs such as paracetamol, can correct it and not harm the fetus.

There are also many drugs, like acetaminophen (Termalgin ®, Efferalgan ®…), that are considered safe for the fetus, which can be used during pregnancy if needed, but always under medical prescription and supervision .

Therefore, the pharmacological treatment of a pregnant woman can only be done by a knowledgeable physician. Self-medication is prohibited, and the change of treatment prescribed by your doctor. This indication of self-medication should not be extended to pharmaceutical advertising, since advertising any of these medicines whose active ingredients are safe during pregnancy has not been proven.

On the other hand, there are some drugs whose use is not only considered safe during pregnancy but also prevent the occurrence of certain birth defects, as is the case of folic acid . It has been shown that this substance prevents the occurrence of neural tube defects (spina bifida, myelomeningocele, etc.)..

For this preventive effect folic acid should be ingested daily since she decides to get pregnant, to continue once you have become pregnant (long it takes) and continue without interruption until the end of the third month of gestation, unless your doctor feels that it should continue because there are other clinical indications.

On the one hand weigh the risk that the treatment is for the fetus.
And on the other, take into account the risk to the woman and the fetus that let untreated disease.
Facial creams
During the pregnancy is not recommended the use of creams indicated for skin aging from the sun in its composition containing retinol or derivatives.

It has been shown that retinoids administered orally, are associated with the occurrence of many birth defects.

Sunscreens
Sunscreens are able to stay long in the surface layer of the skin, which is where they perform their function, so that its absorption is minimal.

Its use is considered safe during pregnancy, and even recommends that pregnant women use to avoid the appearance of so-called “chloasma gravidarum” (dark spots that appear on the skin of the forehead and cheeks).

Deodorants
May be used, except those containing aluminum salts are used for large surfaces such as hands or feet.

Fragrances
Can be used. No reports of birth defects in humans.

Hair Dyes
They can be classified into temporary, progressive, semi-permanent or permanent. In principle, dyes can be used during pregnancy unless the “progressive” (mostly used by men), which may contain lead salts.

Other products
It has been shown that the use of chemical hair straightening or curling produce effects on the fetus or newborn.

Using cosmetics during pregnancy
We must bear in mind that any medication or product applied to the skin and mucous membranes are absorbed into the blood-feeding and therefore may also affect the fetus.

The marketing of cosmetic products requires no previous studies on safety and efficacy, so there are few publications about its possible toxicity.

For any questions about prescription drugs, maternal disease or environmental exposure of health professionals have a telephone information service on teratogens.

It was already known that stress had numbers deleterious effects during pregnancy: increased risk of spontaneous abortion, premature delivery, for hypertension (especially dangerous during pregnancy) and that the baby will suffer delays in their development or low birth weight.

Also it seems that babies whose mothers have suffered stress during pregnancy may be more irritable and nervous during the first weeks of life.

Now it seems that also affects the child’s immune system, promoting the development of asthma and allergies.

Or so concludes a study by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA) has been published in Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

The researchers analyzed the differences in immune markers in cord blood of babies born to mothers with stressful environments and mothers with lower stress levels and found significant differences in patterns that could be associated with asthma risk in later of life.

Little is known about the role of stress in the development of asthma, but studies in animals and suggested that maternal stress during pregnancy influences the offspring’s immune system and from the uterus.

Explains Rosalind Wright, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and responsible work, “this is the first human study showing that increased stress during pregnancy in a minority of women urbanites is associated with different cytokine production patterns in the cord blood to various environmental stimuli in relation to babies born to mothers less stressed ” .

And animal studies suggested that maternal stress during pregnancy influences the system inmuneEl asthma is more prevalent among ethnic minorities and disadvantaged communities in the cities but the disparity is not fully explained by known physical factors.

With this in mind, researchers recruited pregnant women in several cities, including Boston, Baltimore, New York and St. Louis. Their families belonged to large ethnic minorities and 20% of them living under the poverty line. The parent of each child had a history of asthma or allergy.

In total 557 families responded to detailed questions about stressful situations at home. When babies were born sampled their cord blood and isolated immune cells were stimulated with several factors, including allergens and viral and bacterial stimulants, then analyzed the production of cytokines as indicators of how the infant immune system responded to the environment.

The researchers found that the patterns of cytokines related to certain stimulants differed based on the level of stress they had mothers. As pointed out by Wright, cytokine patterns observed in the high stress group, indicating how the baby’s immune system at birth, may be a marker of increased risk of developing asthma and allergy as they get older.

“The current findings suggest that psychological stress is involved in programming the immune response of infants and that this influence begins during pregnancy,” adds Wright.

The investigation will continue during the growth of babies to determine whether maternal stress levels do indeed have an impact on the development of asthma.

One of the most common questions during pregnancy is whether it can still be used makeup, hair dyes and cosmetics. Keep in mind that any product applied to the skin and mucous membranes and is absorbed into the blood and may affect fetal development. There is very little research regarding the toxicity of cosmetic products in pregnancy because studies are not required previous safety and efficacy. Therefore, the French government said in December that they were considering cosmetic products labeled with specific information for pregnant women.

It is known that phthalates , a family of chemicals used in toys and beauty products in small quantities, are harmful to the developing fetus . In fact, in Europe in 2004 banned its use in toys and childcare articles. Not all cosmetics have this component, thankfully. There are also studies that discourage the use of lacquers especially in the first quarter because they may cause urinary tract malformations in the fetus.

When in doubt it is best to consult your gynecologist or the Telephone Information Service for Pregnant (SITE) 91.394.15.89. During pregnancy should not be used anti-aging creams that contain retinol or derivatives. Not recommended the use of antiperspirants with aluminum salts.

The hair dye can be used in principle , except progressives that may contain lead salts. Doctors often recommend not using them during the first quarter, and better natural chemicals. Sunscreens are recommended during pregnancy to prevent stains on the skin. There are numerous brands with specific products for pregnant women, in any case, you should read the label of what we use.
