What is Vaginitis?
Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina characterized by discharge, irritation and / or itching. Bacterial Vaginosis
Bacterial vaginosis (BV acronym in English), is the most common cause of vaginitis symptoms among older women with children. The infection is due to change in the balance between different types of bacteria in the vagina. However, about half of women with bacterial vaginosis reported no symptoms.
All women with BV should be informed of their diagnosis, including the possibility of sexual transmission, and offer treatment. Bacterial vaginosis can be treated with antibiotics.
Generally, male sex partners are not treated. However, in cases of bacterial vaginosis unresponsive to drug therapy, treating male partners may be helpful.
